Being a Foster Carer

Being a foster carer

About us

Who can foster?

Many different people are able to successfully fulfill the role of a foster carer from all walks of life. We don’t ask for any qualifications, we feel the experiences you have gained in life and any parenting skills you have developed are extremely valuable.

Here are the requirements of the role:

-          Applicants must be over the age of 21. There is no upper age limit as long as you are healthy you may apply.

-          Applicants must have a spare bedroom at time of application. If you are having work done in the house to gain a spare bedroom this must be completed before applying.

-          Applicants require a good level of spoken and written English.

Some things to consider:

-          If you have been convicted of certain offences including violence or crimes against children you will not be able to foster. Other minor offences may not affect your application but they must be disclosed from the outset. Failure to do so will result in your application being terminated.

-          If you have lived overseas it will be necessary to undertake the statutory checks in those countries.
