“First for Children and Young People”
We offer a range of placements for children and young people. By working in partnership with you, undertaking careful matching, we can meet the individual needs of the child or young person in each placement.
Types of placements we offer include: short term, long term, emergency, parent and child, sibling, remand, asylum seeker, respite and intensive support placements. Meeting the 5 outcomes
Lead by example – we encourage foster carers to exercise and have a balanced diet and to ensure the children and young people in placement also benefit from healthy eating and exercise.
Health Passports – children and young people in placement will be given a health passport which they can fill in with the help of their carer and supervising social worker. All children and young people will be registered with a GP and a dentist.
First aid – all foster carers complete first aid training.
Health & Safety – annual health & safety checks on all households are undertaken by First Fostering’s Health & Safety officer.
A thorough assessment is undertaken of foster carers to ensure they are suitable for the role.
Close supervision and support from First Fostering’s designated supervising social worker.
Support and advice available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
A child protection policy is in place to ensure the safeguarding of children.
Safe caring policies are in place for each placement pertaining to the individual needs of the child.
Risk assessments are carried out when necessary.
Foster carer training is comprehensive covering topics such as health & safety, child protection, first aid, safe caring, food hygiene & recognizing abuse.
A children’s complaint procedure is in place enabling them to contact us if they have any worries.
Education is a priority for children and young people at First Fostering. All children have a personal education plan and carers will promote learning.
Achievements whether they are big or small will be praised and rewarded.
Carers are encouraged to enable children and young people to take part in many extra curricular activities to broaden their horizons.
First Fostering encourages children and young people to express their opinions by contributing to their foster carer’s annual review, through children’s support groups and a monthly newsletter.
Foster carers help children and young people with their life story work.
Each child receives a guide to let them know how they can contact First Fostering and various organisations should they need advice or help.
Education is important in all children’s lives. Our foster carers will focus on enabling children to reach their potential and help them plan for the future.
Each young person will be encouraged to open a bank account.
Children and young people are given pocket money to learn how to save and spend their money.
As young people reach an age of independence, they’ll be given advice on how to manage their finances in accordance with their pathway plan.
